Nothing is known of the parentage of Mary Ann at this point. We do find in the 1860 Census, Beccaria Twp., Clearfield Co., PA, p.209 (same page as Geo. W. Hoover & Mary Ann) the family of a John B. Witters, age 49, laborer, b. PA, with wife(?) Sarah, age 26, and children Mary, age 5, and David, age 2. This person would be just 2 years older than Mary Ann, and possibly a brother.
